Diountou, a town of about 6,000 people located in the Fouta Djallon highlands region of Guinea. Many folks from this sous prefecture are working as immigrant in Senegal , Gambia and Ivory Coast. Most of the youths are also living or studying in the capital Conakry or Labé. A huge number of people who originates from Diountou live in the Diaspora namely France, USA, Italy and very few in Germany, The Netherlands and the UK.

The only school available draws students from the entire Sous-Préfecture and had an enrollment of over 600 students and a staff of 9. Class sizes ranges from 18 to 95 students. Pupils wear brown "kaki" uniforms while the higher grades wear white and blue uniforms.

The school has two location; entrance of Diountou "missidé" and the residential area of the sous-préfect.This is where most of the government institutions are located. Among them are the health centre, women vocational centre and local police station.

Roughly 1km ahead from this area on the way to Lelouma , is the shopping centre of Diountou and all the satellite villages. More important is the market day locally called as "Loumo". It attracts consumers and sellers alike as far as Labé and Popodara. The shopping centre is ever expanding when going to the direction of Nyagantou- Lelouma  and Madina.Besides the shops at this area, there are few entertainment outlets namely the Video Centre where people watch movies especially on "Lumo" day and the Satellite Centre where Football fanatics gather to watch European football leagues. These are points where you can find most of the youths of Diountou particularly on wednesdays.
